DAY 1

In the morning meeting of the participants in Udine. Accommodation at Friuli Hotel. Free lunch. In the afternoon we will visit the city center of Udine on foot, a small town with a square of Venetian charm and ancient buildings. Very beautiful are Piazza Libertà or “Liberty Square”, defined “the most beautiful Venetian Square on the mainland”, and Piazza Matteotti or Matteotti Square, surrounded by porticoes and the castle towers over the city roof-tops with a view of the surrounding mountains and, towards the south, the Adriatic sea. Wine tasting in a typical osteria of the center. Dinner 100% FVG at Astoria Restaurant.

DAY 2

In the morning visit of Spilimbergo, city of mosaics par excellence and seat of the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli (Friuli School of Mosaic Art). This small city received the award of “Gioiello d’Italia” (Jewel of Italy) in 2013. Noteworthy are also the Cathedral with its 13th century frescoes, the castle with its Painted Palace, the Upper Palace or Palazzo di Sopra in the Valbruna borough, the Chiesa dei santi Giuseppe e Pantaleone (Church of St. Joseph and St. Pantaleon) and its historical centre with its narrow alleys and porticoes (eventual visit at the Scuola Mosaicisti). We will proceed to Valvasone, one of the most beautiful boroughs of Italy. Buffet and wine tasting at the Borgo delle Oche winery. Afternoon: visit among the alleys of this ancient medieval structure, dominated by its castle. Its Cathedral holds a precious 16th-century organ of Vincenzo De Columbis, belonging to the Venetian school, while the littlest European theatre can be found in the Castle. Transfer to Sesto al Reghena to visit the beautiful Abbazia benedettina di Santa Maria in Sylvis (Benedictine Abbey of Santa Maria in Sylvis). Dinner at the Trattoria da Bepo. Back to the hotel for overnight stay.

DAY 3

In the morning we will depart to Fossalon and admission to the Riserva naturale regionale Valle Cavanata (regional natural reserve of Valle Cavanata) by bike. This panoramic route, through the lagoon vegetation and its reeds, will conduce us to admire the mouth of the Isonzo River. We will then proceed with a stroll in the historical centre of Grado, a beautiful Friulian seaside locality. The city, also called “Golden Island” or “Isola d’Oro”, mixes the quaintness of a historical borough with the traditions of the sea in a perfect bond. Typical lunch at the restaurant. In the afternoon visit of Aquileia. Founded in 181 B.C., this small town has an archaeological area of exceptional importance, as it is considered a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
