The Collio is situated at the extreme eastern edge of the region, in the province of Gorizia on the border with Slovenia. A premium-quality wine area, the Collio was one of the rst in Italy to be acknowledged in 1968, as being a Denominazione d’Origine Controllata, or DOC (Controlled Designation of Origin) zone. It stretches from the hills of San Floriano and Oslavia above Gorizia to those of Ruttars, Lonzano and Vencò on the banks of the Judrio, once the border between Italy and Austria.

The Collio’s succession of rolling downs, dotted with small villages and vineyards, covers a total of 1,600 hectares. Cormòns is the heart of this territory where you can nd the Hotel Felcaro***.

 

DAY 1°

Arrival at the hotel,  meeting with the guides and dinner.

The hotel, historical dwelling of the Austro-Hungarian nobility, still preserves the charm of that epoch, with its warm and rustic style, simple cuisine and regenerating context.

Hotel services: rooms can be single or can accommodate up to four people, there is also an onsite restaurant, with sportly menu personalized, a park, a swimming pool, a depository, bike washing facilities, laundry service, wi , a small mechanic’s shop or nearby mechanic, snacks and lunch boxes on request, pet friendly, accessible rooms and private car parking.

DAY 2°

ROSAZZO HILLS

Departure from the Hotel Felcaro in the early morning.

We will be travelling through the Giassico borough, a small gem of the Collio whose origin is Longobard and whose spirit is rural and peaceful. After a short break. we will depart once again.

Arrival at the Rosazzo Abbey for a brief independent visit and departure.

This thousand-year-old Abbey, whose origins are still not totally clear, has represented, thanks mainly to its geographical position, a cultural and spiritual link between the west and the east.

Arrival at the borough of Noax. After a short break, we will depart to Rocca Bernarda, an enchanting place of viticulture and wine production. We will stop for a possible visit of the winery.

After an evocative ring tour inside the Bosco Romagno or Romagno Woods, there will be a friulian pic-nic, made by the products of our land.

Transfer to the Cantina Perusini. Tour and wine tasting. Departure.

Arrival at the Antico Molino (Ancient Mill) in Trussio, still in working condition. We will stop for a brief visit and depart once again.

Back to the Hotel Felcaro in the late afternoon.

DAY 3°

PREVAL COLLIO AND  BRDA

Early morning departure from the Hotel Felcaro

After some pedalling in the Preval cycling paths we’ll cross the national border and enter into Slovenia. We’ll take a short break at Villa Vipolže, a villa from the 1500’s immersed in vineyards. The town of Vipolže is famous for its two castles: a more recent one in the upper part and a more ancient one built in the 11th century, once the hunting residence of the Counts of Gorizia. Continuation.

Arrival at the medieval borough of San Martino, which is located in the geographical heart of Brda – Slovenian Collio, so picturesque and romantic that it is considered one of the most beautiful cultural monuments of Slovenia. Stop-o for lunch at a typical inn and continuation of our journey.

Arrival at Dobrovo, where there once stood an ancient castle of which only the foundations remain. On these, at the beginning of the 17th century, a new castle in renaissance style was built, which remained intact until the present day. Today it is considered one of the most exquisite castles of the Gorizia area. Time will be dedicated to this borough and then we will continue.

We will return back through the enchanting wood of Plessiva, among oaks, robinias and chestnut trees.
